Academic Life

My teachers are like no other.  They are always willing to give up their time to help me.  Lessons are never a chore, instead they are fun and interesting.

The unique 'sixth form on the hill' atmosphere, together with high academic standards makes our Sixth Form an exciting place to study.  Girls are always encouraged to achieve at the highest possible level and the proportion of A* and A grades at A level is impressive.  All students who wish to, go on to higher education and every year girls gain places at Oxford and Cambridge.  We foster a collegiate atmosphere with Sixth Form seminar-style lessons taking place in specialised A level teaching rooms.  We have an individualised, responsive curriculum meeting the needs of every girl and accommodating any combination of A level choices.  Click on the link below to view a list of A level subjects offered:

Sixth Form Curriculum

Teachers are experts in their subjects and understand 'how girls learn', thus enabling the students to take full advantage of the benefits of girls-only lessons.  This, together with small class sizes, allows girls to become confident learners across all disciplines.

On top of their A levels, most of our sixth formers also take the EPQ, the Extended Project Qualification.  This is highly regarded and welcomed by universities. The joy of the EPQ is that it takes students beyond their A level specifications into academic areas that specifically interest them.  Recent titles have included:

  • To what extent are tax havens damaging the global development of the economy?
  • Should the voting age in the UK be lowered to 16?
  • How has treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder in the army evolved and improved from 1918 to the present day.
