House News

Science Challenge 2012: On Friday 11 May we had the first Science Challenge. Girls from year 7 to 10 had to make a stretcher from old newspapers which was strong enough to carry a 'baby' (made of sand!). At lunchtime, there was an obstacle race with girls carrying the 'baby' and a container of water on the stretcher.  The winning house was the one that made it in the least time. If water was spilled the team lost points. More house team, led by Paloma Vince,  made a very well designed stretcher. Laura Negus and Yasmin Khan had a good run afterwards. We came second and are still the leading house overall.  Well done, girls!

Fashion Show - MoreMore House Fashion Show 2012: What a fantastic show again!  This year we had many changes: the show took place in the Hall, the theme was announced on the day and girls from all the houses had to make one outfit in half an hour using recycling materials.  The models were all teachers.  The theme, announced by Mr Waymark, was the 'Titanic' and all the houses showed great imagination.  The winners were Becket with a version of the ship and a penguin modelled by a sinking Mrs Hatton; More came second with Miss Price (pictured) as another stupendous Titanic ship with chimney, waves and passengers included; then Howard with Mr Hoar as Captain Smith; and joint fourth were Campion with Miss Stevenson as an iceberg and Fisher with Mr McSweeney as an intrepid sailor.  Mrs Dales and Mrs Wilson were the judges this year and were very impressed with the fantastic work done by the girls in just half an hour.  We even had the Titanic music when the models were parading!  Well done girls for all your effort and imagination!  Click here to read more and see a picture of all the entries.

 Music Competition

2012 Music and Dance Competition: Music

We came joint first in the Music Competition with a magnificent Alice as Princess Fiona and funny Beth as Shrek (see pictures). The chorus and the instrumentalists were amazing!

2012 Music and Dance Competition: Dance

We also did very well in the Dance Competition: we came joint second but really close to the winners! Our dancers’ performance was praised for its variety and skill. Amy Nuttall was wonderful, coming to Tori’s rescue who got injured and could not dance.  And now we are in the lead in the overall house competition!

Each year we host a very successful event: The More House Recycled Fashion Show!

Fish and Chips

This requires each house to produce an outfit using recycled materials and a fantastic array of garments are displayed on the catwalk much to the enjoyment of the aLondon Eyeudience.  Outfits are modelled by staff.  The theme is announced on the day and girls from all the houses have half an hour to make an outfit using different recycled materials.  Then, models parade their garments and judges decide, taking into consideration the theme, variety of materials used, creativity and the 'wow' factor.  It is a fun experience for the girls taking part and the audience.  Finally we also organise a cake sale to raise funds for Naomi House.
