Spanish FlagExamining Board: AQA

During Years 10 and 11, "Listos 3" is used as the main textbook and all the new tenses and vocabulary learnt so far is consolidated by practising both the oral and written language in a practical and relevant context. Writing involves mainly formal and informal letters; in speaking, the emphasis is on role play, dialogues and telephone conversations. New situations include travel, the media and communications, holidays and future plans.

In the Autumn Term of the Year 11, we finish "Listos 3" in readiness for the mock examinations. The remaining two terms are used for consolidating structures and dealing with situations which demand more sophisticated language. Also, during that time, an extensive range of supplementary material is used which gives students the opportunity to prepare for the higher level examination tasks. Practice examination papers and post examination papers are also extensively used.

Extra material of interest at this level, as well as articles on health, beauty, pop groups, fashion, film and television can be found in the language newspaper "La Cometa" and there are opportunities to watch Spanish channels on satellite TV and extracts of programmes and films from DVDs and videos are also used.

In amongst all the language work, there is still room for learning about Spanish and Latin American culture and history! You might even get to try some tapas!

The examination format for Spanish is the same as for French and German. It consists of the same four skill areas of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.
