Tours

At the end of March 2009, the PE Department took 21 students on a 10 day sports tour to Barbados.  The students from Year 10, 11 and the Sixth Form (pictured with Alex Danson) played competitive hockey and netball fixtures against local, Bajan opposition.  As well as playing sport, the girls also had the opportunity to enjoy the white, sandy Caribbean beaches and the hot, sunny climate!

In preparation for this tour, the students and staff did some fundraising.  Fundraising ventures have included:
  • The sale of tour pens
  • The Year 7 and 8 Activity Day (held before Christmas)
  • Car Boot sales
  • Cake Sales
  • Gym and Dance Display
Our fundraising efforts were greatly supported by our 2 sponsors: E & B Group and Lodge Motor Company.

The sponsorship received by these companies, along with our own fundraising efforts, enabled us to purchase new items of kit for the tour including:
    • Playing Shirts
    • Hooded Sweatshirts
    • Tracksuit Bottoms
In preparation for the tour, the students focused on their training and physical preparation - participating in regular fitness sessions and also attending coaching practices at lunchtime.

In January the hockey players were very fortunate to receive two coaching sessions from Alex Danson (pictured below), an ex Farnborough Hill pupil and current member of the Women's GB Hockey Team.  The students really enjoyed these sessions and the experience of working with an Olympic athlete.  We would like to thank Alex Danson for giving of her time so generously and look forward to seeing the benefits of her coaching on the hockey pitch!
