In July 2007, the
Senior Choir went on tour to
Lake
Garda in Italy. Here is a student report on this exciting trip:
It was 4am, the day after we broke up, when 36 excited girls arrived at
school along with some pretty bleary eyed teachers. There was no time to relax
after the end of term as we had a Lake in Italy to explore!
The week was
packed full of rehearsals and trips to churches, there was almost too much to
fit in! Some of the most memorable moments were in Venice, where we sang Mass in
St Marks Basilica and had a trip on gondolas, fulfilling Mrs Phillips dream of
the sound of Farnborough Hill Choir (and gondoliers) echoing down the canals.
Somehow, amongst the rehearsals and concerts, we managed to fit in a trip to
Gardaland (Italy's answer to Thorpe Park), constant creative song writing on the
back of the bus, a trip to see the nightlife of Riva, where we stayed and some
sunbathing around the pool.
The concert venues really were amazing, in
particular the concert with the beautiful tranquil back drop of the lake, so
different from a concert earlier on in the week, under canvas, where we were
fighting against the sound of a storm. At the last concert we had gathered an
audience of over 600 people in the town square, who particularly loved our
Italian numbers and even asked for a couple of encores!
On behalf of the
senior choir, we would like to thank Mrs Phillips and Mrs Chapman for all the
planning, hard work and all the memories that we all now have from this
trip.
