At the beginning of the summer holidays, we enjoyed a week of
sunshine, singing, a certain amount of silliness and the music making was
splendid! There were many highlights – our first concert in Passiniano
threatened to be a bit of a disaster as a violent thunderstorm meant that we had
to make a run for the nearby church and perform inside and not outside. However,
the acoustic was excellent, and we discovered new friends – we shared the
concert with a brilliant choir from Cyprus and had such fun getting to know them and
joining in with each other’s repertoire. The church in Perugia was massive, and Alice Salmon had fun playing the magnificent organ.
In Siena we were shown to garage number
9, which was our changing room! And the choir, which is always completely
professional, was unfazed by being taken to the wrong church in Rome, and processed calmly up the steps of the
Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore with only 5 minutes to spare before the Mass
began. The girls’ singing was faultless, causing passing tourists to stop and
listen and ask from whence they came. Here’s to the Tour of 2011!
