The Library is located in the old house to the left of the main reception area. Its historic setting provides a tranquil and inspiring location for study and reading for pleasure and it benefits from beautiful views over the gardens and surrounding area. Refurbishment of the Library was completed in the Christmas Term 2014 and included redecoration, new shelving and furniture, touch-screen PCs, Eclipse terminal, improved wireless access and large-screen TV.The Library at Farnborough Hill aims to: provide resources to support the curriculum, promote and encourage reading for pleasure, provide an environment which will stimulate study and reading and develop students' information skills.
A wide range of resources are available including a stock of over 8,000 books, DVDs, reference works, online reference databases, newspapers and periodicals, computer facilities (including a bank of 30 wireless laptops) and printer/photocopier.
In addition to non-fiction books, the Library has an extensive range of fiction including all the latest and best teenage fiction and a senior fiction section. All tastes are catered for and the library staff are always pleased to consider students' recommendations or to hear their opinions.
The Library is open every school day from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm for study, reading, browsing and relaxing. Year 7 and 8 visit the library every week for library lessons as part of the English curriculum and other subjects book the library on an ad hoc basis to use the facilities for research. The Library runs many initiatives to encourage reading, it runs weekly book clubs and shadows awards such as the Carnegie Medal, always celebrates World Book Day, organises author visits (most recently Julia Golding and Sandi Toksvig) and other special events such as the extremely popular ‘Harry Potter Book Night’.
