The Young Enterprise Scheme is a national project whose mission statement is "learning by doing".
Representatives from local business come into the schools twice a week to advise the students. The aim is for "Achievers" to set up a company and run it for a year learning in the most practical way possible about the function and bureaucracy of business.
Every year students from Years 10 and 12 form companies, trade and compete with companies from other schools. In 2015 two of Farnborough Hill's Young Enterprise companies (GreenBox from Year 10 and Inspire from Year 12) gave a great account of themselves at the Hampshire Young Enterprise Area Finals, held at the Ordnance Survey Head Office in Southampton.
For the competition, the companies had to submit a formal business report in advance, represent their products on a trade stand, and then deliver a 5 minute presentation on their Young Enterprise 'journey'. The evening was a celebration of the girls' achievements over the course of the Young Enterprise programme and their personal development as young entrepreneurs. They were presented with the following awards:
- Best Financial Management Plan was awarded to GreenBox
- Best Sales and Marketing Plan was awarded to Inspire
- Runner up Company of the Year 2015 was awarded to Inspire
Overall, all of our companies should be proud of their articulate presentations, striking trade stands and ultimately their profitable small businesses.
