JAZZ QUARTET RECORDING

Hannah Richardson (11A) reports:On the 2nd of January, the Hill’s own Jazz Quartet (Sarah Doyle (10A) - sax, Hannah Richardson (11A) - piano, Alice Pond - bass and Katie Tyler - drums (both from last year's UVI) set out to Invincible Studios in Farnborough to record a debut album. After some confusion about whether the Studio really existed, (it appeared to be an empty warehouse in an industrial estate) we managed to cram six live tracks into an afternoon of fairly constant recording.
We then made good use of the complimentary tea and coffee as the ‘sound guy’ worked his magic on our tracks. Listening back, we cringed our way through the more daring improvisation, and high-fived ‘sound guy’ for making us sound like the pros! We all had a brilliant day – thanks to Mr Cartledge for training us up and overseeing the recording!
